Nelson Kariuki, Graphic Designer & Creative Director at BOLDINK DESIGNS

I'm Nelson Kariuki, a graphic designer & creative director based in Kiambu, Kenya. BOLDINK DESIGNS started from a simple frustration: too much good work goes unnoticed because it looks like everything else.

My work spans brand identity, campaign artwork, social systems, infographics, 3D visualisation and large-format print. Whatever the format, the approach is the same — understand the business, find the sharpest idea, and execute it with obsessive attention to type, colour and composition.

Bold doesn't mean loud. It means a decision was made, and it was the right one.

Away from the screen I'm usually sketching type on whatever paper is nearby, chasing light around Nairobi with a camera, or deep in a football argument that nobody wins. Design, for me, started as that same habit of noticing details other people walk past. I work best with people who care about the small things — the kerning, the crop, the one word that makes a headline land.

Values

Craft over shortcuts

Every pixel is a decision. Nothing ships because it was faster.

Clarity first

Bold does not mean loud. The message always leads the composition.

Respect the deadline

Great work delivered late stops being great work.

Build systems

One-off designs fade. Systems keep a brand consistent for years.

“Nelson took a vague brief and came back with something sharper than anything we'd imagined. Our event artwork finally looks like the calibre of event we run.”
GRACE WANJIRU — EVENTS LEAD, NAIROBI

How I work

  1. 01

    Discover

Understanding the business, the audience and what success actually looks like.

  2. 02

    Research

Competitor teardown, visual references and a clear read on the category.

  3. 03

    Strategy

Positioning, message hierarchy and the creative direction we commit to.

  4. 04

    Design

Concepting and craft — type, colour, composition, iteration.

  5. 05

    Prototype

Real-world mockups so the work is judged in context, not in a vacuum.

Structured feedback rounds with clear decisions at every step.

  7. 07
